₍ ♡ ₎ ㅡ diversity ❜
Welcome to my first blog! Quick info about me is that I used to write before, when I was younger and didn't really neglect on any important subjects that I wanted to talk about. Well now I am sixteen with changed styles for music and everything thus I want to talk about two of my favorite genres of music today and their differences.
As I suppose many people are aware of what is K-pop and what is as well J-pop but the real question is actually how many people have given to one of the genres or both? I am one of the people who listens to both all though since this year ( I started listening to j-pop more often last year and I have been listening to k-pop since 2014th with breaks from the style ) I realized that I do prefer a lot more J-pop. Why is that is a question I ask myself too, but actually the answer is not too hard to find if I think about it. It's not because I am growing out of k-pop, I still love my ultimate groups which have changed places a lot through the years, but at least for me there is a fact that I can't run away from :
K-POP BECAME MORE AND MORE MONOTONOUS
If you don't get what I mean or would love attacking me for my opinion it is not like I don't have some evidences - Ever since 2016, mainly because of BTS, K-pop became an industry where each company started to focus on the American market more and more, trying to sell the style of music that every other group started doing. There are only a few groups left that still stick to their own style and you might say "It's okay for a group to change style" Yes it is okay, BUT let me ask you that : Don't you listen to k-pop because it is something different making you feel kind of individual, like you have your own thing and you can get your friends into it and be thankful that you did. It isn't like that anymore is it? Nowadays everyone gets into every group eventually. With around 20 rookies debuting a year, only around 5 groups make it to be called "monster rookies" and have a large number of fans. For example, from all the groups that debuted in 2018, only ATEEZ, IZ*ONE and (G)-IDLE made it THAT big. Yes Loona are big as well, but I've noticed that their fandom isn't actually that hyped anymore as they were at first. ( "stan loona" flashbacks ). My point is that there was a time ( the k-wave, 2nd and 1st generation as we are now already in the 4th ) when k-pop had it's own individuality and saying that you listen to that style of music was something you could be proud of. Nowadays each fandom is toxic - sadly. We compare group to group, fan to fan, member to member and always get into fan wars for WHATEVER reason.
I can't run away from my first style of music that I was obsessed with of course, but I found myself stanning only 5 groups still. ( If someone is interested in which they are : NCT, EXO, EVERGLOW, WJSN, SNSD ) but I did change my preferences. As you see I am not actually really comparing K-pop to J-pop, rather than that I am just explaining what I find in both styles and since I AM THE ONLY ONE WITHIN MY FRIENDS that listens to J-pop I decided to give my point of view.
So let's get to the exact reason of how I got into J-POP and how I started finding myself preferring it more to K-POP.
Okay so it all basically started with almost last year when I watched the japanese tv drama HIGH&LOW which is an action drama telling the story of five gangs which rule the town called S.W.O.R.D . Anyways, the soundtrack of that drama was on a whole another level and so I decided to check it and have it on my phone ( duh ). It turned out that the whole cast ( minus some other actors ) is from a company called LDH ( love, dream, happiness ) as well they are members of the group called EXILE TRIBE and E-GIRLS.
Slowly, I didn't realize when I had gotten into the groups and started following the artists themselves. The system of EXILE and E.G FAMILY is actually something very close to NCT's system. But basically EXILE TRIBE is the main group from which come
1. EXILE
2. EXILE THE SECOND
3. Sandaime J Soul Brothers ( JSB )
4. GENERATIONS FROM EXILE
5. The Rampage ( literal favorites )
6. FANTASTICS
7. BALLISTIK
1. E-GIRLS
2. HAPPINESS
3. FLOWER
anyway. Enough introduction for my first groups. As much as I am aware of they are a really big thing in Japan, but I don't really actually stan only them. Once I got into the style I searched J-POP recommendation videos finding more and more groups. Soon I actually became obsessed with the style. Here is the thing about J-POP : It's is wide known as "cute" and "innocent" but the few people who actually dig into that style do find out the diversity, this is what exactly happened with me. I suppose that thanks to K-POP since Japan and Korea often trade stocks, etc, J-POP made a big development. I have to admit that the cute groups were really more before, but now even groups like AKB48 are starting to get into a sort of "mature" concept.
Here is what J-POP as styles of music offers :
lots of EDM/TRAP sounds, especially in groups
like SUPER*DRAGON, JSB, THE RAMPAGE, EXILE, HAPPINESS, HIROOMI TOSAKA, CRAZYBOY , REOL, Bullet Train
BALLADS
again groups like EXILE, FANTASTICS, GENERATIONS FROM EXILE, AKB48
HKT48, FAKY, AAA (attack all around) , Bullet Train
HIP-HOP
BANANALEMON, FAKY , LOL, CHANMINA, CRAZYBOY, SKY HIDAKA, REOL
MIXED WITH ROCK
HAPPINESS, EXILE, JSB, THE RAMPAGE, SUPER*DRAGON, BALLISTIK, MADKID
and of course other styles that I can't remember of right now but if you do want diversity I suggest you check out FAKY, MADKID and HAPPINESS as well AAA. AAA are a senior group with 5 members currently, four boys and one girl. There used to be one more female member but she "graduated" (left). Well this is for today. I will leave you to PLEASE listen to HAPPINESS's latest release "chao chao"
